Glamour Poste

Such a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend we had! With family, food and cozy homes, Adam and I spent our first big holiday as a married couple cuddling up to movies and 3:00 am shopping lines.
Yes, 3 am.
We ate our weight in stuffing and turkey much to our bodies chagrin. Honestly, I can't remember the lst time I stuffed myself so much. It was glorious! More than all of the food and early morning sales, we most enjoyed the times we spent with our families. I miss them more than anything or anyone else in this world. It's so so so very hard to be away from them but when we do get to visit, the time is sweet and special.
I've put up most of our Christmas decorations but am working on a few keys things to finish everything off. My wonderful parents were abundantly nice in buying us our first ornaments and little pieces to put around the house. Our tree is up {I hope to post pictures within these next few days}, the front door wreath is hung up, I've cut the holly berries from our bushes out front and am working on the garland that will go above a doorway. Eeep I'm so excited!
Without further ado, a few lovely, glamourous pieces to keep you warm.

Happy Thanksgiving

As per Thanksgiving tradition, I'm trading in my laptop for stovetop. And for the next 16 hours, the only thing I'll be dishing is seconds. Have a happy holiday everyone!

Don't you love it? As I normally have a long list of tasks today I had only one which I accomplished. Organize our files. Done and done, man I love this monday.
What a quiet night we've had around here or day rather.. Adam has studied himself silly over the past week and a half while I have....blogged myself silly. I've become completely addicted to design/lifestyle/fashion blogs which I have given me such inspiration for our daily lives.
We woke up this morning to gray misty skies and a chilly breeze as we were on our way to school and work. Eager to start this week seeing as Thanksgiving is oh so near, I woke up early to get ready for the day. Both of us are ready for a break from the daily grind and we just found out that we'll have Adam's parents house to ourselves on Saturday night. We were told that in honor of taking care of the animals (Itty Bitty (Cat) Elli (dog) and Abbie (dog) , we'll be given a bottle of red wine. I think it's a fair trade, just sayin'.   :)
Oh and guess what?!! I'm making my verrrrry first pecan pie. Yes, homemade....from scratch...betsy crocker-ing it up! I found a recipe via, none other than Martha Stewart that seems simple enough for me to cook up. I talked to my mom on the phone yesterday while she was grocery shopping and she told me allll of the wonderful food she'll be making for our family, I'm utterly ecstatic.

Time to pass the computer on, Adam has to write a Business Organization Outline.
Happy Monday, lovelies.

Much Ado About Sunday

Our tiny living room is lit up by 3 lamps and 'The Santa Claus' on tv. The two of us love the holiday season, Christmas especially, and start the festivities early. We've already started to compile our Christmas music mix and have watched The Polar Express 3 times in the past week. Obsessive?Absolutely not.
For instance, my first Christmas photo : {before thanksgiving, of course}

You know how Martha has that one task about washing your kitchen trash can every week? You see, to me that's a wee bit much but after Adam and I walked into the house this afternoon and smelt the stench of last nights dinner scraps I through out the rubbage and washed away. Yes, I filled the plastic container with piping hot water and some bleach then let sit for a while outside. I scrubbed the lid then set it aside to dry. I felt so accomplished at my random cleaning act I decided to clean the outside of all our cabinets and vaccuum allll the baseboards. {They were atrocious! Dust and dirt were dancing all about our baseboards, it was due time. Surrsly} I'm just sayin, when I get in the mood to clean, I'm on it. Crazy Lysol chick comin through. Watch out, I just might disinfect your butt...and dust your toes. Ooooh oooh and I hung pictures just as I'd hoped.  Okay okay okay, enough of household chores that are less that blog-desirable and onto the rest of the evening.
I hope you have a lovely start of this 3 day work week :)

Hello Sunday!
Can you believe it? First of all this past week completely flew by leaving me wondering where the month of November went. In just 3 days we'll be on our way to Nashville to celebrate our first Thanksgiving as a newly married couple! Both of us couldn't be more excited as we only see our families once a month....much much less than we would like. Normally our time in Franklin is just 1 1/2 days, but this coming weekend it will be 4 days.

As all great weekends go I'm making it my mission to clean up around the house and hang some pictures. Yes we're still hanging pictures and we've lived here for 3 months.We went to Old Time Pottery and bought two small gold, square mirrors for only $1 a piece and I'm holding them up against every wall space to see where to hang them. Hopefully I can post pictures soon of what we've accomplished.
Alright, so off I got to starting this day. Have a lovely weekend!

Bleu Tuesday

After the rainfall yesterday the temperatures dropped this morning and stayed chilly all day. Autumn has officially begun for the me and Adam, he put on his peacoat and I my leather jacket with scarf. Pure love I tell ya, pure love! For the past week he's been asking me to make chicken 'n' dumplings and I figured today would be perfect. I kept the leftover bones with some meat on them in the freezer so I thawed them out then boiled it in 6 cups of water for over an hour. I added the carrots, onions, celery, and made the biscuit dough for the "dumplings". Loooong cooking story short, it was tasty enough for Adam to get seconds. :)
We're about to watch 'The Forgotten', our Tuesday night show so I'm going to post these bleu tuesday pictures.

“To those who can dream, there is no such place as far away”

It seems I can't update until the late hours of the evening, full of inspiration from visiting all of my favorite blogs.
The weather today was quite dreary and cold. {Finally!} Well, I don't want the dreary but fully desire the cold. So chilly in fact that tonight after Adam and I got happy hour sushi at our favorite sushi place ($3 for a roll!) he bought me a warrrrm chai. Lovely, absolutely lovely.
I've kept on track as far as chores go which I'm happy about even though I didn't make a to-do list I took care of what needed to be done.
Being that the cold rain is falling down I find it only necessary to make a "glamour post". A little pick me up, if you will.

Sunday, November 15, 2009

It's 9:15 on Sunday evening and I'll my head will be hitting the pillow very soon.
We've had a wonderful day so far, visited another church this morning that is quite big but they have a new worship service and a young married couples Bible study group. We'll probably visit that class as one of Adam's friends from Law School goes there with his wife. Our main desire is to connect with people/couples in the same walk of life as the too of us and we hope to find a church that will help us to do just that.
I made a list this morning of all the things I had to do for the day, more like what I should be doing because I've put it off for the past week.
{List}

1. Wash Clothes

2. Clean out Car

3. Move Plants Off Porch

4. Trim Hedges

5. Shake out sheets on bed
{Martha Stewart suggests it on her weekly reminder task sheet, so I figured it should be done}

Time to attack the to-do's...
Adam started to wear the t-shirts from the bottom of the drawer, you know the old ones you have from 5 years ago that you don't have the heart to throw away but the wife despises? Yeah, those. So I knew it was time to wash. And there were folded clothes in the hamper from a while ago that needed to be put away. You see my reasoning for this to-do list? If I didn't write it down, it may not be done. All have been washed, folded, put away and hung up. {Check off #1}

All but one of our mums have died that were on our front porch so I had to throw them away. (Obviously they didn't die because of my lack of watering them...right? Of course.) Easy to take care of, I swept the porch, steps and walk way for extra house care points. {Check off #3}
Seeing as we don't have hedge clippers/sheers I had to use my handy dandy office scissors. I know I may have looked odd in my dress and tights trimming the bushes in front of our little house with regular scissors, but really it gives us charm. Yes, charm! {Check off #4}
As you can put together there were 2 items on the list I didn't accomplish but they're small and I'll take care of them tomorrow.  Remember, if something doesn't happen the way you plan:

{Red Letter Words}

Martha Stewart has some handy check lists on her website that cater to cookie swap organizing to checklists for houseguests and daily chores. Here are a couple that I've tried to keep up with these past few weeks.
 ...

I hope you have a wonderful start to this new week we're about to begin! Here's to keeping up our promises.

{Post from Saturday November 14th}

This week has flown by and I have definitely been lacking in the updates.
Though our car battery died on us yesterday afternoon the weekend has treated us well. In an effort to save money I made cinnamon pancakes with turkey bacon instead of us going to get donuts. I figured since I made them with soy milk we were taking the healthy route. Okay so maybe topping the pancakes with syrup didn't help the health factor...but to my credit, it was reduced sugar!
Being that we don't have an excess amount of money, much like everybody these days, I have opted out of $50 hair cuts for an at-home "do".  The other day after work I went to Sally's Beauty Supply to purchase a hair razor so that both of us can't save an extra few dollars every month. {Ohhh but how I miss having my hair done.}Maybe after the new year I'll have some money saved for a little hair treat : )
Later that night I went into the bathroom and layered my hair. Surprised at how it's not lopsided I'm happy with the outcome and glad I took the risk!
I must be off to the kitchen, I'm making a creamy pesto to go on top of our pasta for dinner.
Enjoy the rest of this Saturday night, we'll be watching movies and baking cookies.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever: its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness.

It is Monday again and the week has begun.  I have to say, not that most would disagree, but the weekend is entirely too short! Now that the sun starts to go down at 4:30 I feel like I only have half days. I surely don't miss the sweltering heat of the summer though the longer days I've become wishful for.
Yesterday afternoon once all of our home improvements were finished Adam and I went for a jog. Yes a jog!  We've both committed to running a 5K race in April for Race Judicata so now our training begins. Our plan is to not only to recognize a great cause but also get fit and support each other. A bucket-list to do is well on its way. April, here we come!
Along the same lines of getting fit I want to be in the process of taking care of Betsy as best I can. Enjoy the parts of life that help me to appreciate the beauty and glamor in my day to day.

You can do anything, but not everything. —David Allen

And so it seems I'll be doing not everything, but one thing at a time as it is home improvement day here at the Davis residence.
We have slats that go under our bed in order to support the mattresses but they are just too short and any time you might sit down on the bed or shift in the middle of the night, the slats would fall. Thus a trip to home depot was made. So while Adam configures what has to happen with the bed I'll be cleaning the grout from the tile in our bathroom. What fun, right?
I try my hardest to take care of what we have, though we may not own this house I want to have a wonderful home.
Lately I've been reading a blog, 'A Country Farmhouse' which was bought over 3 1/2 years ago by a couple and the wife updates with their latest projects. The wife has a great eye for design and a sense of pride for her farmhouse. One of the things I love about their home is how they have fresh flowers all over. Small and large vases are scatter throughout which to me give the home such a lovely feel. It was in viewing the photos of their bathroom that made me want to get on my hands and knees and scrub our bathroom.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

How I adore Saturdays, let me count the ways! As a small tradition for the two of us, Adam and I go to our local doughnut shop for our crossword puzzle and a goody for the weekend. He'll wake up in a bit and we'll head out for the morning but I wanted a small post for now.
Yesterday morning we found out about a blessing which has absolutely blessed us and helped to relax the anxiety we had grown accustomed to. {Thank you Jesus, you reign! You are mighty and you take care of us no matter the circumstance!}
We decided to celebrate by having a little date night with Adam buying his favorite beer and I with a new bottle of wine! Now just so you know, I don't like to spend lots of money on wine. I'm still acquiring a taste for it and find no reason in spending $20-$50 on a bottle if I just end up making a sour face and not drinking it again. So we walk into the wine store and as I'm about to pick up my old faithful, Hogue, I see a cute bottle down the isle.
"So cute!", I kept saying! "But will I like it? Do you think I would like a red?" Let me tell you, I have had NO luck with red wines, though after having every person in the store reccommend it as their newest favorite (they got it in the night before and had a taste testing), I was sold!

       Isn't that such a great way to start off your weekend, a good glass of wine? We came home and snuggled up on the couch to watch Medium and a movie which I eventually fell asleep to.
I think I'll post a lovelier post later on today with prettier pictures, but for now I'll hop in the shower.

A Day At The Zoo and Some Good Cooking Too

Can you believe it's already Wednesday....and how about this, November! Still shocked, now I'm just ready for the super cold weather to come our way. *70 degrees outside today*
Despite our Spring/Early Summer temperatures the trees are starting to change the beautiful colors of fall. Yesterday Adam, our good friend Allison and I took a trip to the Memphis Zoo to see the newest addition, The Tetons Exhibit. The sidewalks were lined with trees of burnt orange and bright yellow, perfect for pictures.

Today:
A few minutes ago we finished dinner which took me about an hour to make. Granted I was roasting a chicken in the oven which is what took up the majority of the time, but still!  There are definitely days when all I shoot for is heating up leftovers and then there are days where I get inspired to make an actual dinner. Having my mom tell me about stretching a whole chicken for around 3 separate meals I knew it would help our budget and my creativity. Score!
Having spent $3.42 on this splendid poultry friend I embarked on roasting it in the oven!
Simple ingredients:  fresh rosemary, fresh thyme, butter, onions, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Instructed to baste with the juices every 10-15 minutes made it so juicy and tender, Adam kept complimenting me so I'll take it!! Just roast for 1 hour at 400 and voila. Side dishes were corn on the cob and homemade creamed spinach. (Wonderful creamed spinach recipe by the way!)
