First Day of Spring

As of noon today it will be the first day of Spring.
There have been some major changes in my life lately, and with the change of seasons it seemed only fitting that our lives would bring about change as well. One in particular is that my husband and I now work together. In fact, I am his personal assistant.
I've received many mixed reactions about this change in our life, understandably so, but both of us know that this is exactly what was supposed to happen and where we are supposed to be.
Another change is that I am now the big 2-6; my birthday was on March 2nd. How did I already make it to my mid-twenties? I swear I was just celebrating my 19th birthday.
I came to realize that I am closer to 30 than I am 20 and for some reason that hit me hard. How in the world did these past few years fly by?

At the same time that Adam began working at our firm and I turned 26, our home got a complete makeover. My cousin, who is a decorator and furniture refinisher, came in from South Alabama to fully redo our home. {Happy Birthday to me!}  If you are interested in having a custom item made, check out her site, Becca!

It has been so nice to fall in love with where we live and the pieces we have had. From custom made pillows and shower curtains to a newly redone desk, china cabinet and TV cabinet- our house is now a home.
Well let’s get real, we are renters and in a condo, but it feels like a home. It finally feels comfortable.

Okay friends, I hope that you are doing well and that you are celebrating this first day of spring with something special.

I’ll talk to you soon!
xoxo

Florals

With Spring approaching, I am finding myself seeking out and coming across florals of every distinction.

Truth be told there is nothing more typical than flowers at Springtime. You may recall a quote from Devil Wears Prada sarcastically noted by Miranda Priestly, “Florals in Spring, Groundbreaking.”.

I understand that its not groundbreaking (even though it is in a flower’s nature to break the ground) as a spring trend, but flowers brighten the world. They remind us that there is beauty after a cold, grey winter. (Uh, hello, Polar Vortex anyone?)

A resolution I made this year was to bring more flowers into our home and look at me now- bringing flowers into my blogging home as well!

I hope the images above bring you a little inspiration as well.

Weekend Update

If you watch SNL {Saturday Night Live} I'm sure you are familiar with Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. By far, that is my favorite segment. I'm not sure why exactly, but I never stop laughing when it comes on...not  to mention when Stefon is on. The Mother's Day Ideas segment is my absolute favorite. Hands down.  I literally cackle every time I watch it.
Oh and if you haven’t seen this past week’s episode where Melissa McCarthy hosted, well you best watch that right about now.

Saturday Adam said he quite a craving for sushi so we set out for one of our local favorites, ‘Peters’, only to find out they were closed. Insert sad face. I recalled another sushi joint in town that I hadn't been to in years so off we went! We headed to Bodeli Sushi in Cool Springs/Franklin and found that they had an all you can eat special. Now, if it were 'all you can eat chicken fried steak' or 'all you can eat hashbrown casserole', we would have passed…but all you can eat sushi?! Yes, please!

Can you believe the damage we made at the end of the meal? In case you are curious there are typically 3 pieces of sushi per plate.
In the middle of the restaurant is the “kitchen” or prep space where the sushi chef prepares all of the rolls and then places them on small plates that go around on a conveyor belt. Each plate has a colored ring around it that indicates the price of the sushi/item.  They had everything from simple Philly Rolls to sea weed to dumplings to cabbage rolls to tempura rolls. See something you like? Grab it! It gives new meaning to instant gratification, you know? We were in heaven. I made a little video on Vine HERE to see it in action!

Sunday we took the day off of our normal commitments as Adam had planned to work with his boss but it turned into another date day for us.
I like him a lot…I really really like hanging out with him. I still have a school girl crush on that man.
We got groceries for the week and later spent the evening cleaning our home. Every window was open bringing in the sunshine and a light breeze. Here’s an instagram of what we did:

We changed all of our winter bedding out, cleaned the master bathroom, vacuumed all of the floors and wiped the baseboards, organized our closets, did loads and loads of laundry, dishes, and took out the trash literally 3 times. By the end of the night we cooked some vegan pizza for dinner and conked out.  We felt very accomplished!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and are ready to start the week! I'll talk to you soon...

Happy April

Happy April! I can't believe it, this year is really flying by. Next thing you know we will be celebrating 4th of July. I wish I had some clever joke or prank to pull but I lost all of my ideas when I was 10. Today at work we even talked about pulling an office prank for April Fools- we laughed and then walked away from each other.
Yeah, that was it. End of April Fools story. Moving on!

We had a wonderful Easter yesterday with family and I will share some of the photos tomorrow.  Be forewarned we went a bit overboard on taking photos of the little one in the bunch. Truthfully, we spent 95% of our time focused on our little niece, Charlotte. I can't imagine the love I will have for our own child as I am head over heels for that little lady.

I hope you enjoy your Monday evening, I will now head up to our bedroom for a rinse off and The Following. I may even paint my nails, we'll see how crazy this night gets.

I'll talk to you soon... xoxo bd

First Day of Spring - Spring Things Mixtape

It's official, today is the first day of Spring! Bring on the sun, longer days and bright colors, please!
Here's the thing though, one might think they can now change over their closet by switching to skirts and shorts or kicking off their boots and slipping into sandals, but rarely is that true here in the south.
Last weekend we had temps that reached the mid 70s and tonight we will get into the 20s. Finnicky weather, right?
At some point we will switch seasons but until then, I give you my Spring Things Mixtape

Take a listen :)
Have a lovely first day of Spring!

A Weekend Away in Kentucky

Sometimes you need a little time away from your busy life to get perspective and this past weekend we did exactly that! My best girlfriend of 15 years and her fiance (Congrats Holli and Justin!) invited us to his family's country home in rural Kentucky. The land is sprawling with beautifully blooming trees, a large creek edging the property, goats, turtles, donkeys, chickens, a cat named Callie, an 1800's log cabin...oh there was so much...I wish you could have been there!
We arrived late Friday night to put on some old clothes and take a tour of the property on an ATV. Trudging through rocky creeks and muddy hills we even got a few glimpses of deer running about!

Saturday morning the boys woke to get breakfast at a local pool hall while us girls stayed back to lounge around. I took a few pictures of the land during the wee hours (ahem...ahem 9 am)...as I stepped outside all I could hear was the rushing water and the rooster crowing. I kid you not. Surreal.
Once the boys came back and we all filled up with some much needed coffee, we took the ATV's out for another run about the land. With the sun shining and a warm breeze blowing, it couldn't have been a more picturesque day. I found a new friend in one of their donkey's named Herman while Adam took a liking to Big Mamma, their massive turtle. There is a scientific name for that turtle but unfortunately, I'm not the one to ask. Moving on!
We had a bite to eat at a local bar-b-q restaurant then headed back to the house for some outdoorsy fun!
Let's just say we got a little dirty....okay...really really muddy! Actually, while the boys were shooting at targets us girls went "mudding" then jumped in a mud puddle for an added bonus. We were covered and the boys seemed to toe the line between shocked and impressed.

After much needed showers and scrub downs we settled in for the night. We had a big bonfire planned and even bought s'more stuff but we were rained out and turned it into an indoor party.
Note that there were board games and wine included :)

Our final day was the laziest of them all as we woke up ate, had some lunch, visited a local marina and headed back home.
Justin and Holli in their matching cuteness...
No makeup hotness and the hubby!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and have started this week off with a bang!
Hopefully we'll be able to visit again, but until then, I'll talk to you soon...

On Sunday I told myself that this would be a good week. Keeping my head up and looking for the best in every situation has really worked in my favor!
The tofu stir fry was pretty tasty to our surprise but all the videos I watched on youtube helped as well as all of the online literature I read. {Let's be honest, I was clueless and needed all the food aid I could find.}
Yesterday was the true start of this beautiful week! As I mentioned in my last post Tuesday afternoons are free at the Memphis Zoo which is hands down Adam's favorite activity. Well.... his top activities would include music, zoo's and aquariums. With two sonic drinks in hand we strolled into the entrance and gazed at all of the animals...and people! It was seriously packed.
 {Don't you think we look like we're at Disney World?}

Can we just pause for a minute to admire the father and son matching hair-do's? Yes, father and son. Also, please note that the back of the dad's shirt reads, "Ozzy Still Rules!"

{While taking a picture of this lovely animal, two ladies next to us said, "Wow the donkey looks like a girl I work with." Not sure if that moment could have been any funnier. A burn comment for sure!}
What a hottie!!
The bird gave birth and she looks surprised. "Congratulations!" I yelled to her, birth is a wonderful thing.

Completely and utterly in his element, he can name every fish in the aquarium!

At the end of our visit we drove to Ben & Jerry's for their free ice cream cone day! Thank you cake batter swirl, you made my night!
As for today we've laid pretty lo key aside from the fact that my man made the most kick butt bar b q chicken! We're watching our weekly wednesday shows and are in full obsession over Modern Family.
Bon nuit my loves!

January rings in spring?
The weather here has been ever changing. One week in November we topped 75, two weeks ago it was a blistering 8 degrees causing schools to close because of frigid temperatures. Today we were met with 55-60 degrees. I told Adam that if our winter is over and this is the beginning of a loooong spring season then I'll take it!

Found the video via Ruby Press and am in utter aw of...That Hair. I desire nothing more at this moment than to learn how I can achieve such volume.
Have a lovely early spring evening!
