Holli

I am back from a long weekend filled with family, friends and celebrations! My best girlfriend got married in our hometown of Mobile, AL and I was a lucky bridesmaid.
Well, it was more like Daphne, AL...but let's not get too technical.
Here's a mini back story (or not so mini) on our friendship.
Holli and I met in 3rd grade and as a class project had to write a story about one another. She now notes her love for me developed when I threw up on the most popular/mean girl in our class. Lunch was a bologna sandwich with a pickle and juice. 'Nuff said.
We quickly became friends and did what 9 year old's do best; we soured the woods behind my house, had sleepovers, listened to Hanson, swam...and then I moved. At the end of 3rd grade my family moved to North Carolina and we didn't see each other until 7th grade. Cue childhood tears and heartbreak over leaving a new found bff-for-eva! (This was 1997 people, think broken heart friendship necklaces from Limited Too)
We kept in touch by writing letters to each other, a practice I'm still surprised we did as kids, and talking on the phone. I have a photo locked away of us meeting back up for the first time to see a movie together. Horrible bangs for both of us, just insert ill fitting clothes and we were 12 year old gems!
Whenever my family would visit  Mobile I always made it a point to see Holli. As we got older and were able to drive we made more trips to catch up. By this time my family had made another move to Nashville and by our senior year she expressed her love for music city. In 2009 she made her move to Tennessee. We shared a bed for a couple of months and shared some of the most life changing moments with each other. Tears over cupcakes, first boyfriends, crazy employers; I think you get the picture.
Sadly, by the end of the summer I would be moving away, again, as Adam and I moved to Memphis after our wedding. (Not the wedding or Adam, of course.)
I must add that that girl was nothing short of amazing in helping me plan, laugh and get over wedding drama and jitters. I can't really put into a small blog what that girl means to me. She has been with me through what seems like everything.
We later moved back to the area and were reunited as co-workers. We dredged through cleaning toilets and even vacuuming sheets together.
Last year around this time she had gone through a breakup and  the feelings of, "Will I ever meet the one? When will I be done with this dating crap?" She was heartbroken and darn tired of things not working out. Little did she know she was a couple of months away from meeting her husband.
As the first week of January was coming to a close, she met Justin. By March they were engaged and as of Saturday night they were married. A whirlwind romance!
If ever there were a match for Holli, its Justin. He treats her like a queen. He showers her with love and affection she so greatly deserves and had been without for so long. I do approve of her choice, he is an amazing guy!
In Holli I have found a true friend...even after totaling her car. I feel so lucky to know her and to call her my friend. My best friend. In the past year I have seen her blossom into such a beautiful and classy woman. Seeing that she is not one to enjoy being the center of attention, it was so fitting to see her and Justin celebrated. Everyone at the wedding must have felt like it was their best friend up there getting married. That is what is so special about Holli, she treats you as though you are her closest confident.
I love that girl and always will.
Here's to you Mrs. Laffer!

Lovely Little Weekend Recap

Hello one and all (of the two of you)!
I hope you had a great late July weekend and Monday! Can you believe how quickly this month has passed? In a mere 2 days Adam and I will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary. Talk about time flying by. In a sense I feel like it was just last week that we tied the knot and in another I feel like it was 10 years ago. In a good way, of course :)

I wanted to share some photos I took throughout our weekend and again, I’m giving all of my pictorial documentation credit to Instagram and my iPhone. If it weren’t for those two helpers I might rarely take a picture of our day to day life.
Friday evening we went to Mellow Mushroom for pizza with my favorite Holli, her hubby-to-be Justin and lovely sister, Anne. By the time our pizza arrived at the table we all became silent ravenous folk. I love spending time with them; I always laugh really hard and come away with a smile. They will be getting married in just under 100 days per their calculation. So exciting!
Saturday I spent with my mom scouting out décor for my sister-in-law’s baby shower. Yay for baby Harvill on the way! We addressed envelopes and walked up and down the aisles of Hobby Lobby. You best give me at least an hour if I walk in there. It’s a dream land I tell ya. Pure crafty discounted bliss.  Tonight I will be cutting burlap and painting J I’ll try to utilize my iPhone again for your viewing pleasure. While I was ogling over fabric swatches, the hubby was playing golf with his boss. Golf by the way is his new found love. Obsession, if you will. He went Saturday and yesterday!

We spent the better part of our evening catching up on Revenge. I know. Don’t get me started. We spent hours watching episode after dramatic episode.  Not sure if I’ve mentioned it but we recently went cable-less. No satellite for us Davis’s so we have succumb to Netflix and Hulu for our nightly television.
Sunday we slept in past church (due to excessive Revenge…shame…for shame!) and decided to utilize the rest of our time by running errands and cleaning house.  I made our current favorite, Roasted Lime Basil Salmon for dinner and we of course finished the rest of Revenge. If you watched the show, including the finale, you know how anxious we are to see the second season. We may have even googled when it premieres because we can't wait. We may have? We totally did.
Also, I did try out the SNBR (Sunday Night Beauty Routine) with success! I soaked my feet in our at home foot bath and painted my nails!

Early on in the evening I made some chocolate covered bananas and strawberries. For some reason, since we went to Disneyland and I had a chocolate covered banana for a snack, I've been hooked! I feel like I'm eating an ice cream treat without the guilt! Yumm.
Tonight Adam's bff Harrison will be in town so I should make sure his room is taken care of.
I hope that you have a lovely Tuesday!
I’ll talk to you soon

A Weekend Away in Kentucky

Sometimes you need a little time away from your busy life to get perspective and this past weekend we did exactly that! My best girlfriend of 15 years and her fiance (Congrats Holli and Justin!) invited us to his family's country home in rural Kentucky. The land is sprawling with beautifully blooming trees, a large creek edging the property, goats, turtles, donkeys, chickens, a cat named Callie, an 1800's log cabin...oh there was so much...I wish you could have been there!
We arrived late Friday night to put on some old clothes and take a tour of the property on an ATV. Trudging through rocky creeks and muddy hills we even got a few glimpses of deer running about!

Saturday morning the boys woke to get breakfast at a local pool hall while us girls stayed back to lounge around. I took a few pictures of the land during the wee hours (ahem...ahem 9 am)...as I stepped outside all I could hear was the rushing water and the rooster crowing. I kid you not. Surreal.
Once the boys came back and we all filled up with some much needed coffee, we took the ATV's out for another run about the land. With the sun shining and a warm breeze blowing, it couldn't have been a more picturesque day. I found a new friend in one of their donkey's named Herman while Adam took a liking to Big Mamma, their massive turtle. There is a scientific name for that turtle but unfortunately, I'm not the one to ask. Moving on!
We had a bite to eat at a local bar-b-q restaurant then headed back to the house for some outdoorsy fun!
Let's just say we got a little dirty....okay...really really muddy! Actually, while the boys were shooting at targets us girls went "mudding" then jumped in a mud puddle for an added bonus. We were covered and the boys seemed to toe the line between shocked and impressed.

After much needed showers and scrub downs we settled in for the night. We had a big bonfire planned and even bought s'more stuff but we were rained out and turned it into an indoor party.
Note that there were board games and wine included :)

Our final day was the laziest of them all as we woke up ate, had some lunch, visited a local marina and headed back home.
Justin and Holli in their matching cuteness...
No makeup hotness and the hubby!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and have started this week off with a bang!
Hopefully we'll be able to visit again, but until then, I'll talk to you soon...
