Happy Tuesday - Birthday Week

I hope that you are having a lovely Tuesday! It is quite gloomy and rainy here in middle Tennessee and the light in the office seems to mirror the light in the photo above.
Can I get a blanket and a nap time scheduled? Please? Pretty please? Anyone? No? Okay....Moving on....

Drumroll please! It is officially my Birthday week! I cannot believe 25 years has passed so quickly. I always thought of the age 25 as being an adult but I still find myself saying things like "One day when I'm a big girl" or "An adult would probably have....".  Yet I'm not there yet except for when I pay taxes or insurance or think about efficiency. Kids don't think about efficiency...they just don't.
 I spoke with a co-worker recently and at 47 she said that she still thinks those same thoughts. At what point do you turn into one? A grown-up, that is.
Well any way, to start the b-day week off right, this past weekend we spent with family and friends! Saturday the Mr. and I got to hang out with each other as we spent the day shopping {I got some makeup goodies} finished by dinner and a movie with close friends. We saw Silver Linings Playbook in case you were curious. Jennifer Lawrence is my new favorite, I'm so glad she won the Oscar! She is just plain funny and I appreciate her self deprecation after the whole trip up the stairs thing. You go girl.
Sunday was special; we got to spend time with my family! We walked around downtown Franklin, took lots of pictures, chomped on yummy pizza and browsed around the boutiques. I love my family and our little niece. I truly truly love them...'nuf said.
Yesterday my main man {My only man by the way} treated me to a mani/pedi and dinner at Carrabbas. How amazing is he? Rather than our usual Monday routine I think I prefer pampering and going out to eat.

So that's my wee update...again, I hope you are having a lovely Tuesday. February is almost over which means the year is flying by and next Thursday will probably be Thanksgiving.
Okay, I'm gone :) I'll talk to you soon.

Monday Must Haves: Mamma

Today's Monday must have is my Mamma and today is her birthday!
Wow, words cannot even begin to describe how amazing she is. Truly, to know her is to love her and learn from her and laugh with her. To the woman who taught me how to change a flat tire, sew a button, make a cake and order a coffee at Starbucks, you are amazing!
A wife. Kick butt Azalea Trail Maid. Mother. Knitter. Friend. Grandmother. Icon. Sister. Daughter.
I mean seriously, this woman is so beautiful she hasn't changed in over 20 years. *Lucky to have her genes!*

I love you Mamma, I hope this day is so very special for you!
Thank you for all that you have done for me and our family.

Happy Halloween {2012}

Just stopping by for a quick hello and to say Happy Halloween!
This year I have tried to make more of an effort to decorate our home and get into this spooky holiday.
My mother-in-law is particularly fond of Halloween as her birthday is the day before. We decided to have a small birthday get together for her tonight along with Joe (my father-in-law) and Adam's bother Daniel to celebrate Barbara.

 Yesterday I went to JoAnn’s to pick up some last minute decorations and today our living room has cheesecloth hanging from the corners of mirrors, draped across a lampshade, strewn atop our china cabinet and even whittled into a few nooks and crannies. It’s a happy spooky home without being creepy or gross. I’m not a fan of literal finger foods or eyeball-esque deserts. Don’t even get me started on fake blood...

Back to the point! I’m so excited to have some fun and greet our neighborhood kids with candy. Did I mention we bought a 5lb bag of tootsie rolls? Yeah…well…they take up a lot of space in a bowl for little money and I won’t be overly tempted to snack on them the whole night. I say it’s a win-win!
Have a happy Halloween everyone!

Throwback Thursday: 3 Years Old

Its throwback Thursday and I thought I might show you a few pictures my mom found in the attic.
To be honest, I don’t remember having ever seen these pictures which makes them all the more special. As you can see, celebrating my 3rd birthday with family in North Carolina in my velvet green dress and white tights, I was very 1991!

 Me and me Brother Josh getting ready to chow down apparently…and poor guy, he has a black eye! We were wild ones when we were younger; always outside, running, playing, kicking…each other, hanging off of monkey bars, we could have been considered mini acrobats.

Here I am with my mom rocking the Peter Pan collar! I bet she had no idea that 21 years later it would be considered quite hip! Minus the rose stitching, of course and added blue ruffle.

Now it’s me and my Gramma Harvill….or Betty {Semi namesake}
She was the woman responsible for teaching me how to apply peach lipstick! A lady in love with cosmetics and jewelry, I can only imagine why I turned out the way I did.
Sadly enough today marks the 15th anniversary of her death. It came as quite a shock to all of us but I’ve had a couple of confirmations growing up that she is doing just fine.
April 19th has always been a memorable day in the lives of my family members aside from the passing of my grandmother.

I do enjoy reminiscing about when I was younger...everything was much simpler and sweeter. But for now, that is it for Throwback Thursday. I hope you have a wonderful day and I will talk to you soon!
xoxo bd.

A wee celebration

.....and tomorrow will be my birthday. The big 2-4.
We will be leaving on a weekend trip to North Carolina to help pack up my grandfather's home as it has finally sold!
 I thought I should say a quick hello before we head off as we'll be without wi-fi (ooohhh we can do it, right?) until Sunday. We will leave Nashville this evening and drive through the night with my brother, Josh and his wife, Amber. That's right, driving through the night. Should be fun. Should be interesting. Should be tiring. But on to what I enjoy much more....
This past week has been sweet; Adam has made this an entire birthday week starting last Friday. He would say, "Wherever you want to go, we'll go. It's your birthday!" "Want to eat out tonight? Where? It's your choice, its your birthday week!"
Yummy dinners, movies, window shopping at the mall, new makeup and many starbucks trips have made these past 6 days oh-so-delightful! He surprises me everyday with his endless love and affection...there's no better match for me than him.
So much has changed within the past year in my life. A year ago we were living in Memphis packing up our home and searching for a new place to live. Adam was feverishly studying for finals and I was worried about where I might work. A year later we have moved back to Nashville, both got jobs and are trying to figure out what the future holds. If you asked me the difference between 20 and 24 I would say that I am such a different person. I have learned much and have been humbled greatly. You never know what God will throw your way or show you; It's unbelievable.
All of that to say, I'm excited for my 24th year and continued learning. I hope you have a lovely Spring weekend...talk to you soon!

SheStyledIt: How I Store My Makeup

It's Friday! The weekend has arrived, I am ecstatic!
I would really enjoy visiting the world of sleeping in tomorrow....really really enjoy.
You may have read once or twice that I am a lover of all things organized. Well this week on SheStyledIt all of us girls (Andrea, Elly and Karina) are talking about how we store our makeup products. As the space that I store my makeup is quite small I thought I would show you all of my beauty items and how I try to maximize the space.
Whether you are a girly girl or love a good video on storage...cause who doesn't think about fun and storage in the same thought.....then please watch what I have posted below.
This weekend we'll be dog sitting for my boss as he and his family visit a college for their daughter. It doesn't hurt that they have a theater in their basement, if anything, it just adds to the beauty of this weekend. Oh and I also want to note that my dearest friend, Holli will be turning 24 on Saturday as well as my gorgeous and incomparable Mamma. (We'll just say she's turning 24, too!)
Definitely a busy few days ahead of us but I am eager to enjoy every minute.
Have a lovely Friday, I'll talk to you soon!

Vlogmas: Day 12 {Adam's Birthday}

Hello friends, I hope that you're doing well!
Yesterday was Adam's Birthday, the big 2-6!! Sadly,  because both of us were working full days, we didn't get to spend much time together aside from our evening. Spending every day of my life with him is an
absolute treat.
I adore that man, I really really do.
I feel like it is rare that you find someone who not only gets who you are as a person but also loves you despite your shortcomings. He is kind, gentle, loving, strong, brilliant, caring, creative, hilarious.....that man hung the moon in my opinion. He is my love and my best friend. A girl couldn't ask for anything more than that, right?
Before you decide to stop reading for all of the mushy feelings I have, why don't we jump into day 12 of vlogmas.

See you tomorrow!

You know you are in trouble when your mom gets on to you for not posting.

Since my last update that was oddly enough exactly one month ago today, many things have happened.
To celebrate Valentines Day, Adam and I went to Do for sushi as we have per tradition for the past three years. To my surprise, I was given lilies, my absolute favorite flower!
What a wonderful husband I have! He loves and takes care of me so well; just call me spoiled.
One of the reasons why I love lilies is that they tend to last me for a couple of weeks at least; they are definitely worth the price and beautiful to boot!

Each day the sun would shine welcoming in what seemed to be the start of Spring with warm afternoons and short sleeved shirts. Of course, all good things must end as yesterday and today’s weather has been unkind. A dreary gray colored the skies with cold air seeping in through our windows. (We lack insulation in our house. I am not kidding.)

Before I forget, I wanted to mention that we took a trip back to Nashville last weekend to celebrate my birthday and search for apartments. I am now the ripe ole’ age of 23… I’m a spry one.
My parents were generous to take us out to The Cheesecake Factory to indulge in the most amazing corn fritters and chocolate mousse goodness. I kid you not when I say I have a big weakness for cheesecake. After that wonderful night, we spent all of Saturday driving around Cool Springs, Brentwood and Nashville for a place to live.
After touring many places, we decided on the first apartment we viewed which had the best deal of them all!
I cannot express how excited I am for this move as I have been counting down the days. {Two months & three days}
While my excitement has been brewing, Adam has become increasingly anxious as it means he will have finals to take and papers to write. Sorry, my love.
On top of his anxiety, he was plagued with the flu this past week. He was miserable for 6 days straight and rarely slept through the night. Thank you, Jesus, for the invention of Tamaflu as without that powerful drug he would still be under the covers with a fever.
Since then, the sheets have been cleaned, everything de-sanitized and he is now the proud owner of a new toothbrush. What a week!

Hoping you enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening, I will let you go.
Talk to you soon,

Xoxo .bd

I'm back from under the proverbial rock but only momentarily as we still don't have internet at our house.
Can you believe it's been almost 3 weeks since my last post? I'm pretty sure I'm having withdraws from my blogging and daily blog stalking. We have currently switched Satellite and internet providers leaving us with scrounging from local coffee shops and McDonald's.
Lots of events have occurred which I feel sad I haven't documented with this here space but you do what you can with what you have, right?
Spring has sprung in Memphis if only for a little while giving way to break out our summer clothes.
I am now the ripe old age of 22 and feel no different but celebrated the day with the most amazing of all men, my husband! Being as great as he is, he cleaned the entire house, top to bottom, washed, folded, hung up all our clothes, swept and mopped the entire house (hardwood floors throughout), cleaned the bathroom, made the bed and best of all had lillies waiting for me when I got home from work. A man doesn't fully know how big of a gift taking care of the house is until his crazy wife jumps up and down for about 10 minutes. Later that night we went to a sushi restaurant in what I wouldn't call the safest part of town but proved to be worth it as the food was unbelievably affordable and delicious!
My parents visited for my birthday last weekend where we were able to show them the new law school, devour the yummiest breakfast and bar-b-q all the while searching for a new coffee pot. {Thank you Mamma and Daddy, we are royally obsessed and coffee-holics!} I adore having them in town and staying with us in our home, they bring such a fresh perspective on things and make everything better, you know?
After they left we enjoyed the beautiful weather and invested in an outdoor grill which we have used for almost every dinner and/or lunch this past week. {Even pizza on the grill!} In an effort to further our love of the outdoors and change of seasons we also bought a rake and cleaned up our back yard. We're in the process of beautifying what little space we do have by planting flowers and grass. We may not have green thumbs yet but just you wait! I'll post pictures as soon as I have a camera and computer in the same room.
We're now to Sunday afternoon having spent the weekend with our families and Miss Holli Denham {love that girl!} in Nashville! The times we spend always seem cut too short but soon enough those problems won't be there.
I must get back to family time as I'm neglecting everyone I've come to see on account of this post!
I hope this finds you well and that you've enjoyed your weekend as much as I have. Please say a quick prayer for our drive back home and I'll post some time later this week.
Love you all!

Happy Sunday from Franklin, TN
Friday after work we drove to see our families to celebrate my beautiful mother's birthday!
We went to Olive Garden for super yummy Italian food and went back to my parents house for Parks & Recreation and Community. I hold so dear the time I spend with my parents, brother and hubby- we're in our utmost comfort zone sitting in the living room watching tv and movies.
Yesterday my mom, Adam and I ventured to Green Hills for some much needed shopping. Green Hills has some of the best shops and boutiques Nashville as a whole can offer. Restoration hardware had the loveliest pillow case on sale for $10 which I purchased of course and a decorative dinner plate from Anthropologie. {I know the perfect place to hang my new find!} I am a shopper through and through, it runs in my blood.
Now that the rain has stopped we're headed into town to purchase a new phone for Barbara {Adam's mom} and a few candles.
Have a lovely rest of the weekend and pray for our safety as we drive back to Memphis.

A Very Merry Gingerbread Weekend

We had such a wonderful weekend despite the rain that fell.
Saturday was Adam's 24th birthday which we celebrated of course with the start of Gibson's Donuts and some of our favorite magazines.

Birthday Boy!

Since the rain was pouring we stayed in for the afternoon and watched movies while cuddled up on the couch and later ate at Huey's for his b-day dinner. Huey's is a memphis burger joint famous for their, well, burgers (soooo yummy) and the toothpicks people have thrown on the ceiling. Gross, I know. But it's kitschy and so we like it.
Yesterday we finally got to visit the newly married couples sunday school class. I've been yearning for friendships with couples that are in the same place in their lives as we are and I hope we find those friendships there. We truly enjoyed the teachers and how much it related to what we're going through as a couple. Although we won't be able to attend the next couple of weeks for being out of town, I'm excited for January and all of the wonderful relationships God has in store for the both of us.
Seeing as we've started this new life together as a married couple we decided that we want to build our own traditions for every holiday/season. A tradition I wanted to institute was making a gingerbread house! For some reason we never really made one, that I can remember, as a kid and I felt it was about time.
No no no I did not bake my own gingerbread, I wanted to make a pretty house, not burn it before it was put up! Many thanks goes to Wal Mart for mass producing a cheap version with all the accoutrement that we needed for only $8!

 And a few pictures of our lovely little place with some Christmas cheer :)

{Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!}
{Target seemed to lie about this tree being 6' tall, I'm going with more like 5'5"}

{The garland I made above a doorway}
-Please excuse the poor picture quality-

{Even our bathroom towels have been decorated}

{Our Dresser}

{My bedside table with some holly berries I picked from our bushes in the front yard}

{The shelf above our kitchen sink dressed with merry berries as well!}

More posts for this week that I'm quite excited about, feathers anyone?
